BOLERO, BRUBECK AND MORE

BOLERO, BRUBECK AND MORE

The Erie Philharmonic's 97th season is. . . spectacular!   Music Director and Conductor Daniel Meyer recently announced the 2010-2011 season, presented by Scott Enterprises, to Erie Phil subscribers at special preview events.

"We're thrilled that we're able to present 10 world-class performances that will showcase our extremely talented musicians and special guest artists,' Maestro Meyer said.  "From Dave Brubeck in the fall, to The Planets in January, to the magical music of Disney in the spring, it's all there."

The season begins in late September with music from Bernstein's On the Waterfront and Ravel's Bolero.   Hoist's The Planets will warm up a cold January evening. Also, that night, an Erie premiere of a contemporary clarinet concerto will be performed.  In addition to a the popular Come Home for the Holidays, the Pops features legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, the music of your favorite Disney shows and the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein for your Valentine's weekend.  Click here for the complete season.

You can be sure that you'll have a seat for these upcoming performances by becoming an Erie Phil Subscriber.  Call 455-1375 for information about a special discount for first-time subscribers.

THE PIANO

THE PIANO

Known for its tonal range, size and versatility, the piano is often referred to as the King of Instruments. A piano concerto by Saint-Saens started off our Symphonic Series last September and we close the series this Saturday, April 17, with a Brahms piano concerto performed by Benjamin Hochman who brings prodigious talent combined with the requisite sensitivity required to perform this most beloved of romantic piano concertos.

Also on the program are Bartok's Rumanian Folk Dances and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

Classics in the Evening with WQLN's Wally Faas, a pre-concert discussion, will be presented in the First Niagara Community Room adjacent to the Warner Theatre beginning at 7:15 pm. It is free to ticket holders.  Ticket prices for the show range from $15 - $50. Click here for tickets. The 2009-2010 season is presented by Scott Enterprises. The Symphonic Series is sponsored by Erie Insurance, WQLN, and JET Radio. This concert is presented by Dr. Charles and Mrs. Susan Furr.
