The Mel Brooks wacky, award-winning musical, The Producers heralds the opening of the 92nd season at the Erie Playhouse - the first community theatre in the nation to secure the rights to perform Mel Brooks’ runaway hit. Mr. Brooks has taken the sum total of all the best bits, styles of songs, and a complete collection of what makes us laugh and jam-packed them into this gigantic and entertaining two and a half hour musical. Playhouse Family News

Congratulations to Kate (Neubert-Lechner) and Nick Murosky on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Laila Ann, born Sunday, August 10. This soon-to-be "triple threat" was 6lbs. 10oz and 19 1/2 inches at birth.

Sally Prazer - longtime Playhouse volunteer - joined 177 swimmers who went the distance, from the shores of Presque Isle State Park to the Erie Yacht Club in celebration of a "swimmable" bay. Sally, an avid swimmer, learned to swim in the Chestnut Street Pool as a kid, and now teaches adults to swim at the YMCA Eastside Branch. She was the oldest participant in the swim at 76 years old!

Charles Corritore (Business Manager at the EP) and Michael Malthaner have penned a new musical, Peeved: A Musical About Life's Little Annoyances, which premieres at the Riverside Inn Sept. 5-6, 12-14, 19-20.

Aaron Stephens, former EP Mainstage and Youtheatre performer, tells us he misses the opportunities for his kids that the Erie Playhouse Youtheatre program provided for him..."Speaking as a parent now and not having a program around for my kids that comes anywhere close to what the Youtheatre was like, makes me realize all the more what a gem that program is to have in the Erie community. I don't do much theatre anymore, but many of the skills I learned in my years doing theatre really pay off at work, at church, and in other community activites I am involved with...you should know that your dedication and mentoring is much apprecieated and had a very positive impact on my life."

Dear EP Family,

39,370…

Please remember this number!

On September 4th, the opening night of The Producers and the Erie Playhouse’s 92nd season, we will begin ticking down from 39,370…this is the number of individual, paid ticket holders who need to walk through our doors from September 4, 2008 through August 16, 2009.

39,370…1 out of every 7 residents in Erie County
39,370…just over 1/3rd of Beaver Stadium’s sell-out capacity for one Penn State home football game
39,370…the number of pennies my son Seamus has to collect to replace his X-Box 360

39,370…. Every time you walk through the Erie Playhouse doors with a paid ticket, you will help us tick this number away to zero.

A special thank you to our dedicated season ticket holders who have promised to walk through the Erie Playhouse doors at least six, nine or 12 times this season!

The Erie Playhouse staff will keep our audiences up-to-date on the countdown in the theatre lobby (This number should not be confused with the winning 50-50 number!).

I look forward to seeing you at The Producers. This musical has been both a challenge and a blast to mount (to provide the high production value you’ve seen on our stage in shows like Ragtime and Beauty and the Beast, thousands of hours of work by volunteers and staff have made this huge production a reality). We can’t wait until you see it!

See you at the theatre!

Did You Know? …the Erie Community Foundation distributed over $242,000 for Quality of Life grants in 2008? The Erie Playhouse received a generous $20,000 grant for marquee/façade improvements scheduled at the theatre in the 2008-2009 season. Thank you to all the donors who entrust their hard-earned funds to the Erie Community Foundation which in turn distributes grants to many worthy area nonprofit organizations.

The Community Access Television Channel 2 (in Erie) and Time Warner Adelphia Channel 19 will air What’s New at the Erie Playhouse? September 8 and 10 at 10:30am, 3pm, and 8pm. Get caught up on the season for 2008-2009!

THANKS to the cast, orchestra, crew, production staff, and front-of-house staff of Footloose who volunteered an extra weekend of their summer to present this energetic show to huge added crowds August 21-23! The show lifted our spirits, propelling over 4,500 audience members into the busy school and work weeks ahead. And…to the Footloose audiences who added $7,247 to the Erie Playhouse Annual Fund coffers…thank you!
