From the Executive Director
Dear EP Family,
Adaptation is a word that is popular at the EP this summer as we present the page-to-stage Tuesdays With Morrie and the classic opera-to-rock-opera Rent. I can't tell you how many people have expressed to me how much they enjoyed the book and film Tuesdays With Morrie
and how much they are looking forward to seeing the stage adaptation this month. Charlie Corritore is directing and is excited about the relationship developing on stage between EP veteran Al Braun, who plays Morrie Schwartz, and, new to our stage, Dan Hicks as Mitch Albom. The range of emotions stirred up from the words will no doubt move each of us. Show dates are July 9 through July 25. (We have cancelled the July 15th performance because of Roar on the Shore; it's hard to hear two actors over the roar of thousands of bikes!)
Rent is our much-anticipated musical of the season and 15 actor/singers are gearing up to perform their favorite show for you. Under the direction of Richard Davis and Katrina Foltz-Miner, Rent, a modern day adaptation of the opera La Bohème, written by Giacomo Puccini in 1896, wil no doubt stir all the senses. I saw the show on Broadway seasons ago and remember a very pumped up audience as the curtain came down. Rent is on August 5th to the 28th. And, be sure to see the show so you can enjoy local artist Evan Everhart's metal sculpture made especially for our production.
I believe the best adapatations are created by those who choose to put their work in front of live audiences. You will be privy to two such works with Tuesdays With Morrie and Rent!
See you at the theatre!
Almi
