MAGIC OF WARNER IN PRINT
After a decade of research, the story of the last original Warner Bros. theater has been published. You can purchase your copy of A Picture Palace Transformed: How Erie’s Warner Theatre Survived a Changing World at the Phil's Pops Concert on October 24 or the November 14 Symphonic Concert and have it signed by the author, Barbara J. Hauck. Erie’s Warner Theatre, first opened on April 10, 1931, has been a center for the region’s cultural life throughout its 78 year history.
Hauck, a former Erie Philharmonic Development Director, has brought together the building’s history with stories of the people who managed the theatre and who enjoyed movies, performances, and special events within its walls. Based on the works of Edinboro University professor Dr. John Marsh (deceased), she brings the reader to the present day and the Warner’s central place as Erie’s performing arts center. Combining research and interviews conducted by Brian Sheridan, she adds personal stories throughout the book. Photos of Erie’s past are coupled with stunning photographs by Erie photographer Art Becker,
making this book a beautiful and rewarding look at one of Erie’s historical and cultural centerpieces.
Books will also be available at Border’s, the Erie Bookstore, and at the Warner Theatre before all performances. All proceeds from the sale of this book will be used for the restoration, expansion, and maintenance of the Warner Theatre. Makes a great gift!
JUST 58 DAYS LEFT
Tickets are selling fast for the Phil's popular Holiday Pops. Don't wait too long to reserve your seats for this year's Come Home for the Holidays on Saturday, December 12.
UNPLUGGED
Erie Phil Unplugged certainly proved to kick off the 2009-2010 Philharmonic season in style! More than 100 event attendees enjoyed a jazzy night on the town at the swank Metropolitan Club while raising important funds for the orchestra. Maestro Daniel Meyer emceed the evening which was filled with sneak-peek performances by some of this year’s greatest guest artists, and Phil board member, Mrs. Peggy Richardson, was honored for her 30 years of support and involvement with the Phil.
Bill and Janet Miller, of Sabella’s Catering, treated everyone to an array of selections thoughout the evening. Bidders also competed for unique musical experiences in the live auction; one up for grabs included a privately catered dinner party with Maestro Meyer himself! Erie Phil musicians also received a special gift when generous guests bid to fulfill the orchestra’s need for 80 brand new music stands for the talented musicians!
Garnering over $20,000 to support the Phil and its programs, the evening wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated event committee: Chair, Peggy Schwab, and committee members Penny Austin, Gennifer Biggs, Sherry Cline, Christie Ferrier, and Marissa Savastana.
