NAME THAT. . . CONCERT

The Erie Phil's 2010-2011 is just about finalized.  But we would like your help in naming two concerts, one Symphonic and one Pops.

"Each season our staff creatively names each of our programs based on the music performed," Executive Director Eric Borenstein said. "This year, we'd like your help with a couple titles."

The Symphonic Program  pieces include: Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem featuring the Erie Philharmonic Chorus

The Pops Program is a salute to Armed Forces Day in May, 2011. Various guest artists will perform a patriotic tribute to the men and women who protect our country each day.

Please submit your best concert titles (for one or both concerts) by responding to this email.  The winner(s) will be selected by the Erie Phil staff and awarded a FLEX 4 Package for next season.  Good luck!

YOU NEED THE ARTS, THE ARTS NEED YOU

YOU NEED THE ARTS, THE ARTS NEED YOU

There are those who believe that in challenging economic times, arts organizations are “frills” we can live without.  But that's wrong.  We need our arts organizations because they reach more than 400,000 people each year. And we need them because the vital signs of any community must include the health of its arts organizations. They are part of the mosaic that makes our region’s economic engine run. They help us attract and keep jobs.

Plus, the arts affect some 500 jobs and generate $15 million a year in economic activity. And they face a crisis of survival because of funding cuts from every direction. The $300,000 goal for this year's Arts Erie United Fund drive will help keep theater lights lit and music playing. It will help our economy recover.

But it won’t happen without your investment. Please invest today so your arts organizations can continue to play an essential role in what makes Erie a special place to live, work and play. Visit www.artserie.org today or call ArtsErie at 452-3427.

STAFF NOTES

Erie Phil Executive Director Eric Borenstein is pleased to announce that Marketing Associate Eric Marshall has been promoted to the newly created position of Patron Services and Technology Manager. In this new position Eric will continue his exceptional work with our customers in the Box Office and will also work closely with the Marketing and Development Directors to ensure exceptional patron and donor relations.

At the same time, the Phil sends best wishes to Development Associate Carolyn Eller in her new position as the Director of Marketing and Development at the Erie Art Museum.

NOUVEAU SAVES MUSIC

The Erie Art Museum’s newest party series for 20-40 somethings, Nouveau, is saving local music one musician at a time at its appropriately themed Save the Music party on Friday, Feb. 26 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Erie Art Museum, 411 State Street.

“Bring your playable instrument – guitar, drum kit, horn (even your tambourine!) for donation. We’ve teamed up with local refugee relocation agencies and plan to donate the instruments to local refugee musicians, young and old, who have fled their country and left their instruments behind,” said event organizer Tammy Roche.

The event features Erie’s own theHeliotropes, tasty nibblers and a donation bar.  The party continues at Molly Brannigans with specials exclusively for Nouveau attendees.  The event is free for Erie Art Museum members and those who donate a playable instrument; $8 for non-members. Young Erie Professionals members receive $2 off.
