GET YOUR PHIL AT NOON - FREE
The Erie Phil's Get Your Phil At Noon Summer Music Series kicks off on Friday, June 19 at noon in front of the Warner Theatre on State Street.
The first of three, free lunch-hour ensemble concerts will feature a Philharmonic string quartet fully amplified. Seating for the outdoor event will be provided or guests can bring their own lawn chairs. WQLN Radio’s Wally Faas will broadcast live from the event and hot dogs will be served!
“As a thank you to Erie for a great season and in anticipation of another exciting season beginning in September, we are once again providing free entertainment to the public during the lunch-hour right outside the historic Warner Theatre,” Executive Director Eric Borenstein said.
Music Director Daniel Meyer will announce the 2009-2010 season at the event on June 19. In addition, the Erie Phil is offering a special subscription sale that day: New subscribers can buy one 2009-2010 subscription and get one free! Subscribers can save more than $400 during this special offer! Subscribers can choose the symphonic series (five concerts), pops series (five concerts) or the entire season (all 10 concerts).
The other two dates for the free concerts are July 24 and August 28. The Get Your Phil At Noon Summer Music Series is sponsored by Iadeluca Chiropractic Center, the Erie Times and WQLN.

THE WINNER'S CIRCLE
More than 150 attendees donned hats and strutted their best derby-chic attire to support the Erie Phil on May 30. Held at Presque Isle Downs and Casino, the Second Annual Run for the Tulips was truly a memorable night at the races, as guests wined, dined, wagered and won.
Greeted by an Erie Phil string quartet, guests entered the scene of a yellow wonderland. The décor committee, led by Pauline Stevens, transformed the Clubhouse into a delightful space elegantly adorned with hundreds of yellow tulips. Event attendees enjoyed a bird’s eye view of the race track as they savored appetizers and a sumptuous dinner and dessert buffet. Guests tried their luck by placing bets on the races, and sponsors had their photograph taken with the winning horse and jockey in the winner’s circle. The winning horse of the seventh race, The Run for the Tulips, sponsored by WICU-TV 12, was draped in a blanket of yellow tulips, specially created for the event.
While the eight horse races certainly commanded the guests’ attention, it was the derby-inspired hats that took center stage when winners were announced for “best” of the evening. Judges handed the prize to Tesha Nesbit-Arrington, while Lene Currie and Rosanne Cheeseman received honorable mentions.
Garnering over $32,000 to support the Phil and its programs, the event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible work of the dedicated volunteer committee: Co-Chairs Darlene Lay, Debbie Porreco, Peggy Schwab, and committee members Karen Black, Ruth Burton, Sherry Cline, Michelee Curtze, Christie Ferrier, Lorianne Feltz-Upperman, Noreen Griffith, Mili Hanes, Maria Langer, Karen Lipman, Deb Murphy, Lois Owens, Inara Renkis, and Pauline Stevens.
If you missed this year’s Run for the Tulips, save the date for Erie Phil Unplugged on October 3!
We Still Need You
With the Erie Phil on the verge of closing the books on another artistically successful season, we still need you to help ensure the financial success for the year. With two weeks left in the fiscal year we are just $10,000 shy of meeting the financial goals to cover the season we just enjoyed.
With all the people who love and support the Erie Phil, it would take everyone donating just a small amount to achieve this goal. Contributions account for nearly 50% of the money needed to present our concerts, community outreach programs and educational efforts.
You can make a difference by donating right now, or send your donation to us at 609 Walnut St., Erie, PA 16502. Together we’ll keep the music alive in our community. Thank you!
