FROM ZEPPELIN TO KORNGOLD

FROM ZEPPELIN TO KORNGOLD

When violinist Rachel Barton Pine performs with the Erie Philharmonic on Saturday, she will perform Korngold's Violin Concerto.  But that doesn't mean she hasn't performed with the likes of Jimmy Page and Guns 'n Roses' Slash.

The young Chicago-based violinist has performed on stages all over the world in front of hundreds of thousands of people, released 13 albums, won countless prestigious awards, and played with musicians ranging from Placido Domingo to a Metallica guitarist.   Yet throughout her career, Rachel has worked to demystify classical music and bring it to audiences for whom it has not been easily accessible. Groups as various as inner city children, sports fans, music students in developing countries, and even her fellow rock fans have been enriched by Rachel’s devotion to music and the infectious enthusiasm with which she shares it.

Rachel, who will perform with the Erie Philharmonic this Saturday at the Warner Theatre (www.eriephil.org/tickets/buy-a-ticket/), has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Chicago, Atlanta, St. Louis, Dallas, Baltimore, Montreal, Vienna, New Zealand and Iceland Symphonies, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Israel and Scottish Chamber Orchestras (www.rachelbartonpine.com).

Saturday evening's Scott Enterprises Symphonic Series concert, A Night in Old Vienna, begins at 8 PM.  It also featuares Brahms' Third Symphony and Johann Strauss' Emperor Waltzes.

Concert goers are invited to Classics in the Evening with Wally Faas at 7:15 in the National City Community Room adjacent to the Warner.  (Wally may talk about Korngold's movie music career -- 22 movies in all.  He won two Academy Awards.  Be the first to name one of those award winning movies and win a pair of tickets to Saturday night's concert.  Reply to this email.)

Tickets can be purchased by calling 455-1375, ext. 4 or visiting the Erie Phil office at 609 Walnut Street.  Tickets can be ordered online at www.eriephil.org/tickets/buy-a-ticket/    Tickets prices for the show range from $16 - $48. Discounts are available for students, groups, and seniors, and $10 Rush Tickets will be available 15 minutes before show time. Doors open at 7 p.m.

NOTE:  Special online ticket sale -- Friday, November 7 only -  www.eriephil.org/tickets/buy-a-ticket/.    Buy one admission, get one free (for Nov. 8 performance)!

This Scott Enterprises symphonic concert is also sponsored in part by the Talking Phone Book, WQLN and Jet 1400.

With just over a month remaining until Erie's premier holiday tradition, the Come Home for the Holidays Pops concert, ticket sales are steady.  On Saturday, December 13 the Warner stage will be filled with the music we all know and love.  The orhcestra will be joined by our friends from the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, the Collegiate Academy Choir, Belle Valley Elementary Choir, Warren Area Youth Choir. . . and, from Broadway's A Chorus Line, Erie's own Nick Adams (photo right).  Whew!  That's a lot of holiday voices, but don't worry, the audience will have a chance to sing along as well!

Last year's show was a sell-out, so you are encouraged to get your seats early for the December 13 concert. Reserve your tickets today at www.eriephil.org/tickets/buy-a-ticket/.
