A SPECIAL GIFT
Wondering what to give that person who has just about everything? Or do you want to treat yourself to a New Year filled with live music? The Erie Phil is offering a special "gift with purchase" now through January 24: Buy tickets to 3 concerts and receive an additional concert free! The gift is the January 24 In the Spotlight concert featuring your Erie Phil Woodwinds.
"There are six concerts remaining this season, three symphonic and three pops," Director of Marketing Karen Beardsley-Petit said. "You can attend four of them for the price of three with this special offer -- our gift to you!"
Highlights of the remainder of the season include a February 14 (yes, that's Valentines' Day) pops concert featuring the music of Billy Joel and the iconic Carmina Burana on March 7 featuring a performance by the young violinist who captured our hearts last year, Chad Hoopes. The final concert in the Scott Enterprises Symphonic Series on April 5 features Maestro Daniel Meyer's talented wife Mary Persin on viola performing Don Quioxte with Cellist Zuill Bailey. To close out the entire season on May 12, the infamous music of contemporary composer John Williams will fill the Warner. Can you even begin to cite his works in the motion picture industry?

WELCOME, NATHAN

He also serves as a liaison between the orchestra and the administration and is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the orchestra’s artistic objectives. Nathan is also the Erie Phil’s orchestra librarian.
"I'm excited about working with such a reputable orchestra and a highly talented group of musicians," Barber said. "The Erie Phil 'family' has been very welcoming and I'm anxious to jump right in with the upcoming holiday concerts."
A Michigan native, Barber served as the artistic administrator of the Pine Mountain Music Festival for the past eight years. An accomplished composer and musician, Barber has also served as music director/conductor of the Keweenaw Youth Symphony in Michigan and as a music instructor/lecturer at the college level.
He received a master’s degree in music composition/theory from Western Michigan University, a BM in percussion performance and a BA in telecommunications from Michigan State University. Nathan is also a volleyball coach in his spare time and he led the girls varsity volleyball team at Lake Linden-Hubbell High School to a conference championship this fall. Congrats!
A TRIO OF HOLIDAY CONCERTS
For the second consecutive year, Erie’s premier holiday tradition, the Erie Philharmonic’s holiday pops concert at the Warner Theatre, is a sell-out. The December 13 Come Home for the Holidays pops concert* was sold-out before Thanksgiving.
“From the familiar clip-clop of the horses’ hooves in Anderson’s Sleigh Ride to a sing-along for everyone, the Erie Phil’s holiday pops concert is an event that brings holiday cheer to all.” Executive Director Eric Borenstein said. “The community’s support of this extremely popular concert is a wonderful gift to us.”
The orchestra will be joined by an assortment of vocalists including former Erie resident now appearing on Broadway, Nick Adams. Also appearing on stage with the orchestra is the Erie Philharmonic Chorus, the Belle Valley Elementary Select Chorus, the Collegiate Academy Chamber Singers and the Warren Area Youth Choir.
The following day, the Erie Phil will travel to Warren to perform at the Struthers Library Theatre at 2 PM. The youth choir from Warren and Nick Adams will also perform. At 7 PM the orchestra and Adams will perform at the Academy Theatre in Meadville. This is the third year the Erie Phil’s holiday pops concert has traveled to Meadville.
Nick Adams is best known for his role as Larry in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line opposite Mario Lopez. Adams has been onstage from the age of nine and began his professional career at sixteen. He earned a BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in dance at the Boston Conservatory of Music.
The Erie Philharmonic chorus is led by interim chorus director Dr. D. Jason Bishop. The Belle Valley chorus is under the direction of Melany Myers and the Collegiate Academy students are directed by Susan Huster. The newly formed Warren Area Youth Choir is also under the direction of Dr. Bishop.
Tickets for the Warren concert can be purchased by calling 814-723-7231 or visiting www.strutherslibrarytheatre.com. Tickets for the Meadville concert can be purchased by calling 814-387-8000 or visiting www.meadvilleacademytheatre.com.
