96 IS BIG DEAL
Whether it's number 6 or 96, opening night performances are a big deal for the Erie Philharmonic. The 2009-2010 Season, the Phil's 96th, is so special in fact that you may feel like dancing!
“Another season is upon us and I couldn’t be more excited,” Conductor Daniel Meyer said. “This season includes some of the most excellent music of today as well as treasured classics to create a diverse and engaging season of music.” The season is presented by Scott Enterprises.
“Our Erie Insurance Symphonic Series is book-ended with music featuring the powerful and passionate piano with the drama of Verdi’s Requiem in between. Our Hanes Erie Pops Series features music centered around Halloween and the Holidays with favorites from the 70’s and Broadway as well,” Meyer said.
Opening Night features young rising star and award winner Konstantin Soukhovetski performing Saint Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Born in Russia, Soukhovetski won First Prize and Audience Prize at the 2007 New Orleans International Piano Competition. This season he will perform with orchestras throughout the country and will embark on his third 16-performance tour of South Africa next spring.
Also on the program are Rachmaninoff’s beloved Symphonic Dances and Maskats’ Tango. Pre-concert entertainment in the Warner lobby features the Tango Club of Erie. This Erie Insurance Symphonic Series concert is also presented by WQLN and Jet Radio 1400. It is in memory of Pauline Scott.

CLASSICS IN THE EVENING
WQLN's Wally Faas is back again to host Classics in the Evening, a pre-concert discussion that will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the evening's composers, pieces and even guest artists.
If you want the scoop on Beethoven's childhood or Brahm's botched marital advice, stop in the First Niagara community room (enter through Warner lobby) and join Wally and his guests. Pre-concert talks are presented at 7:15 PM before each Symphonic Series Concert and are free to ticket holders.
TICKET PRICES
Good news! The Erie Phil's single ticket prices reflect just a slight increase over last year's prices, but that is because all additional fees are now included. That includes the City of Erie Amusement Tax and all handling fees. Ticket prices range from $15 - $50. Section D seating prices ($15) decreased. Subscription prices remained the same as last season.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.eriephil.org, by calling 455-1375 x 4, at our office at 609 Walnut St., Monday - Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, or at the Warner Theatre the night of the performance. Doors at the Warner open at 7 PM.
Season subscriptions are still available. We can credit a single ticket purchase from the opening night concert toward your subscription for either the full season (10 shows) or the Erie Insurance Symphonic or Hanes Erie Pops Series. And, still, new subscribers can buy one subscription and receive another one free.
There are many ways to GET YOUR PHIL!

POPS ON THE BAY
It was a perfect late summer evening on Erie's Bayfront when the Erie Philharmonic performed at Liberty Park in front of nearly 5000 guests who attended Erie's Heritage Festival on September 12. This year, the US Brig Niagara was on hand to take part in cannon fire during the Phil's performance of the 1812 Overture.
The free event was coordinated by the Erie County Historical Society.
