THE ERIE PHIL'S BATTLE FOR YOUR SOUL

THE ERIE PHIL'S BATTLE FOR YOUR SOUL

More than 100 vocalists and choir members will fill the Warner Theatre stage with the Erie Philharmonic musicians as the orchestra presents the Verdi Requiem on Saturday, March 6 at 8 PM.

“With a thunderclap from an enormous bass drum, the screams of a full symphonic chorus on a rapid descent into hellfire, and eager pleas for eternal redemption, Verdi’s Requiem is an opera in sacred clothing with Purgatory as its setting,” Music Director and Conductor Daniel Meyer said. “It takes many instruments and singers to bring this gigantic, dramatic musical presentation of good versus evil to life.”

In its third collaboration with the Philharmonic in as many years, resident artists from the Pittsburgh Opera join the orchestra: Danielle Pastin, soprano; Lindsay Ammann, mezzo-soprano; Noah Baetge, tenor; and Liam Moran, bass. The concert also features the Erie Philharmonic Chorus under the direction of Dr. Jason Bishop and the Grove City College Touring Choir, directed by Dr. Douglas Browne.

Classics in the Evening with WQLN’s Wally Faas, a pre-concert discussion, will be presented in the First Niagara Community Room adjacent to the Warner Theatre beginning at 7:15 pm. It is free to ticket holders.

Ticket prices for the show range from $15 - $50.  Click here for tickets.  The 2009-2010 season is presented by Scott Enterprises. The Symphonic Series is sponsored by Erie Insurance, WQLN, and JET Radio. This concert is presented by Springhill and WPSE Radio.

SUBSCRIBERS:  Don't forget to RSVP if you plan to attend the Sneak Preview after the concert on Saturday -- 455-1375 x 4 or email Eric Marshall.

PHIL HITS AIRWAVES

Ever wish that you could hear one of the pieces from an Erie Phil concert again?  It's now possible!  This Wednesday the music performed by your Erie Phil will be aired on WQLN radio.

It has been 10 years since the Erie Phil’s music has been broadcast on the station.  Erie Philharmonic Broadcasts will begin on March 3 following an 11:00 AM interview with Music Director and Conductor Daniel Meyer. They will continue on the second Wednesday of each month during the 11:00 hour of the Classics with Wally Faas show.

The first performance will be Grieg’s Piano Concerto with guest pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi from a September, 2008 Erie Phil concert.  Other performances will include Joaquin Turina’s Bullfighter’s Prayer on April 14; Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana on May 12; and Bizet’s Carmen Suite on June 9.
