GET YOUR PHIL OF THE FAB FOUR

GET YOUR PHIL OF THE FAB FOUR

Imagine The Beatles playing in concert with a symphony orchestra. What would that have sounded like? Find out for yourself when the members of Classical Mystery Tour - featuring original members of the Broadway sensation "BEATLEMANIA" - perform live in concert with the Erie Philharmonic in All You Need is Love - A Tribute to the Beatles, on Saturday, May 10 at the Warner Theatre at 8 pm.

“The Fab Four musicians in Classical Mystery Tour look and sound just like The Beatles, but CMT is more than just a rock concert,” Erie Phil Executive Director Eric Borenstein said. “The show presents some 20 Beatles tunes sung, played, and performed exactly as they were written.”

Hear Penny Lane with a live trumpet section; experience the beauty of Yesterday with an acoustic guitar and string quartet; enjoy the rock/classical blend on the hard edged I Am the Walrus. From early Beatles music on through the solo years, CMT is the best of The Beatles like you've never heard them.

Classical Mystery Tour features Jim Owen (John Lennon) on rhythm guitar, piano, and vocals; Tony Kishman (Paul McCartney) on bass guitar, piano, and vocals; Tom Teeley (George Harrison) on lead guitar and vocals; and Chris Camilleri (Ringo Starr) on drums and vocals. Martin Herman will serve as the guest conductor.

"We really make an effort to sound exactly like the originals," explains
Owen, who admits that he and the other three BEATLEMANIA members are big Beatles fans. "The orchestra score is exact, right down to every note and instrument that was on the original recording. On Got to Get You Into My Life, we have two tenor saxes and three trumpets. That's what it was written for, and that's what we use. And on A Day in the Life, can you imagine that big orchestra crescendo happening live?"

Ticket prices for the show range from $15 - $47 and can be reserved at 455-1375, ext. 4 or at www.eriephil.org. Discounts are available for students, groups, and seniors, and $10 Rush Tickets will be available 15 minutes before show time. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The 2007-2008 inaugural season of Daniel Meyer is presented by Scott Enterprises. This Hanes Erie Pops concert is also sponsored in part by Classy 100, FOX 66 TV and Marquette Savings.

KIDS INTRODUCED TO BEETHOVEN

KIDS INTRODUCED TO BEETHOVEN

"What a great experience for my grandchildren on Saturday! Such an       entertaining way to introduce them to symphonic concerts. The play format added a wonderful dimension to the experience. I applaud the board, the staff and director in putting together this concert for young people. I hope you plan more of them in the future."  Diane Banks - Highmark

Several hundred families learned more about the life of Beethoven on Saturday at the Phil's Family Discovery Concert Beethoven Lives Upstairs.

This concert featured two actors who tell the story of Beethoven renting an upstairs room from young Christoph's family.  The funny, true stories such as Beethoven pouring water over his head and writing music on the walls helped bring the composer to life.

The Warner lobby was filled with activities before the concert such as face painting, an instrument playground, refreshments, crafts and learning to conduct with Music Director Daniel Meyer (photo above).

A film crew was in town to shoot the Philharmonic in conjunction with a Marquette 100th anniversary television message recently.  Marquette is producing a 60-second commercial to commemorate this milestone and musicians of the orchestra and their music will be a part of it.  The commercial is scheduled to begin airing in May.

The building on State Street which has housed the Phil offices is owned by Baldwin Brothers and is being sold. The Philharmonic had occupied that space since the late 1990’s.
