THE MAESTRO AND MRS.
Get your Phil of two (that's dos) young, talented guest artists when Conductor Daniel Meyer leads the Erie Phil and his wife, violist Mary Persin, and cellist Zuill Bailey in Viva Espana! this Saturday night at 8 PM at the Warner Theatre. They will perform together Strauss' Don Quixote; the program also includes Music from Carmen and Turina's Bullfighter's Prayer. (WIN TWO TICKETS: Which Broadway hit is based on Don Quixote? Be the first to respond to this email.)
Persin is a founding member of the Biava Quartet, recognized as one of today’s most exciting young American string quartets. She celebrates ten years of performance with the ensemble this season. Currently holding the Lisa Arnhold Quartet Residency at the Juilliard School, she serves as quartet in residence and teaching assistant to the Juilliard Quartet.
Bailey, who performed with Meyer at Chautauqua last summer, is a consummate concerto soloist who performs with symphony orchestras throughout the United States and internationally, including a celebrated performance with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in its 50th anniversary tour of Russia. In his New York recital debut, Bailey performed a sold-out concert of the complete Beethoven sonatas at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He is a member of the acclaimed Perlman-Schmidt-Bailey Trio, featuring pianist Navah Perlman and violinist Giora Schmidt.
Saturday evening's concert begins at 8 PM. Concert attendees can learn more about the music on the program by attending Classics in the Evening with Wally Faas at 7:15 in the National City Community Room adjacent to the Warner. Tickets for the show range from $16 - $48. Discounts are available for students, groups, and seniors, and $10 Rush tickets will be available 15 minutes before show time. Doors open at 7 p.m.

MAY THE SCORES BE WITH YOU
You know the movies...and you love his music! Some of the best films of all time just wouldn't be the same without the wonderful scores of John Williams: Harry Potter, ET, Superman. . . and the list goes on. In the Phil's season finale, hear these scores and more on May 9 at the Warner Theatre. Star Wars and Beyond, a Hanes Erie Pops performance, also features the Erie Jr. Philharmonic and Bruce Johnston on sax.
Special Guest Conductor, John Vanco, Executive Director of the Erie Art Museum, will take to the podium during the evening in the annual guest baton fundraiser which, this year, will benefit both the Phil and the EAM.
Before you "phone home," phone the Phil at 455-1375 (or visit us online at www.eriephil.org) for tickets, which are selling quicker than Superman can rescue Lois Lane.

JR PHIL STANDOUT
Chelsea Nelson is this year's Jr. Philharmonic Concerto Contest winner. She was featured at last weekend's annual Spring Concert performed by the Jr. Phil under the direction of Maestro Robert Dolwick. The orchestra features students from the tri-state area in grades 6 through 12, who study and perform classical music.
Nelson, a horn player from North East, began studying with Dolwick, the Erie Philharmonic’s principal trumpet player, in third grade. This is her sixth season with the Jr. Phil.
The first Concerto Contest was initiated in 1994 by former Erie Phil Maestro Eiji Oue. It is open to members of the Jr. Philharmonic and the winner is chosen by audition. Conductor Daniel Meyer is this year’s financial sponsor.
