From the Executive Director

Dear Erie Playhouse Family,

Shawn and I traveled to Harrisburg last week to deliver five business applications for the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. The Erie Playhouse hopes to participate in this financial program, thanks to the generosity of the following businesses: Eriez Manufacturing, Lake Erie Systems, Urban Engineers of Erie, Organ Supply Industries, Inc., and Dias Spring Service, Inc.

We dropped off the applications before noon and then decided to go to the PA State Capitol Building. Neither of us had ever been there. Wow, is it beautiful! As we entered the building, we looked up in the rotunda. Inscribed on the ceiling are passages related to justice, religion and art. Although each saying is moving, we found the arts sentiment by philosopher Plotinus to be poignant…"art deals with things forever, incapable of definition & that belong to love, beauty, joy & worship; the shapes, powers & glory of which are forever building, unbuilding, & re-building in each man’s soul & in the soul of the whole world."

Often we hear art is good for the soul; it completes us. In our small way, the Erie Playhouse hopes the time you spend at the theatre as a volunteer or audience member completes you – providing a venue where you can share your many talents or treating you to the entertainment you deserve.

Shawn and I also stopped by the office of State Senator Jane Earll, an avid supporter of the Erie Playhouse and other regional arts groups (The senate and house were in a budget session so we did not get to see her personally).

We then drove on to Philadelphia to see Julie Craig (who grew up performing at the Erie Playhouse), playing Cosette in Les Miserables at the Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest theatre in the country and soon to celebrate its 200th season. As we approach our 92nd season, the Erie Playhouse is proud to share in the great tradition of live theatre, forever building, unbuilding and rebuilding.

See you at the theatre!

Almi

DID YOU KNOW the Erie Playhouse has seven approved programs that can be funded through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program?
